Meet Matt Dodd – Games and Animation Graduate

LMA is like a family and studying here has trained me to work in games and animation.

I have taken part in workshops, gone on trips, engaged in masterclasses and heard from guest speakers which, for the first time, opened my eyes to what the gaming industry would really be like.

Before this, I had no idea how much there was to learn about the job I really wanted.

But studying at LMA has been such a good experience and has helped me grow as a person and in my career.

You build relationships with so many new people and this pushes you to work hard together.

For me, making new friends and getting to know them is what really makes LMA a fun place to be. I always wanted to be there and I’ve made so many amazing memories and friends for life.

I graduated from LMA with a BA (Hons) Degree and got a job straight away working for games developers, Cosmonaut. My job involves doing exactly what I love. I work on 3D assets for the gaming environment, which includes the stuff which is seen by the player, such as objects the player might pick up. I also work on the textures of the assets.

My tutor Chris is one of the best tutors I’ve ever had, he is so experienced in the gaming industry, and taught me so many practical skills that I apply in my new role. He not only helped me learn the art of gaming, but helped me secure the job I love!

If I had chosen another university to go to, I wouldn’t have gained the valuable life experiences that have helped me come so far already.

Making use of their industry specialised equipment such as the editing suites and software, has developed my skills in so many ways and I am even more interested in gaming than before – I didn’t think that was possible!
