BA (HONS) DIGITAL FILM & TV PRODUCTION (Top-Up) COURSE OVERVIEW
This one-year Top-Up course is designed for students who have already developed foundational skills in film and media production and are ready to advance their creative and technical practice to a professional level.
Building on your previous experience, you’ll work on industry-focused projects that reflect current practices within film, television, and digital content creation. You’ll explore storytelling, production techniques, and audience engagement, while developing your own creative voice as a filmmaker.
A key aspect of the course is working to professional briefs. You’ll have the opportunity to create content in response to real or simulated client requirements, developing your ability to produce work that is both creatively engaging and commercially relevant.
The course culminates in a major production project, where you will take on significant responsibility within the production process. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you will develop and deliver a high-quality piece of work that showcases your skills and creative vision.
Alongside this, you’ll build a professional portfolio, including showreels and production work, and undertake an independent research project linked to your interests within the industry.
By the end of the course, you will have developed the technical expertise, creative confidence, and professional awareness required to progress into careers across film, television, and digital media.

To apply to join the BA (Hons) Digital Film and TV Production (Top-Up), you’ll need to have successfully completed or be in the process of completing a relevant Level 5 qualification, such as a Foundation Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or an equivalent course. Your study will need to be in a similar subject area.
You may also be eligible if you’ve completed or completing 240 credits of a BA (Hons) degree in a related subject and are looking to transfer for your final year.
We’ll review your previous study to make sure it aligns with the course, using our Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process. This helps us ensure you’re fully prepared to succeed at Level 6.

You'll explore how successful brands create compelling narratives and digital campaigns, and then apply that knowledge to a live brief from a real client. Working professionally with a chosen brand, you’ll research their identity and target audience to develop digital content tailored for platforms like social media and the web. This module mirrors real industry practices, giving you the chance to develop portfolio-worthy content and work in a client-led production environment. It’s your opportunity to demonstrate creative, technical, and commercial skills in a real-world context.

This final-year capstone module is your opportunity to design and deliver an ambitious, original film or TV production. You’ll draw on the full range of technical, creative and production skills developed throughout your degree, working independently or leading a small team to produce a high-quality project that reflects your unique voice as a filmmaker. From pitching to pre-production, directing to editing, you’ll manage all phases of the production cycle. This module is also designed to prepare you for entry into the industry, helping you build a professional-standard portfolio piece that showcases your vision and readiness for the creative sectors

Prepare to launch your Film and TV career with a comprehensive promotional portfolio. You’ll learn how to market yourself professionally through showreels, websites, digital branding, CV writing, and promotional materials. Industry insight sessions and career planning workshops will help you identify your target audience and employment sector while giving you the tools to present yourself confidently to agents, employers, directors, and producers across the creative media sector.
